Energy, Environment & Utilities - Energy Storage

With the increasing integration of variable and intermittent renewable energy sources to the electricity transmission and distribution grids, operators face a number of challenges in balancing production with energy demand. The report analyses the different technologies that can be used to address these challenges.

By managing peak demand or excessive production of renewable energy at certain times, grid efficiency and environmental improvements can be achieved. The technologies used are based on mechanical, electrical, chemical, thermal and electrochemical principles. Each of these technologies possesses different characteristics that can provide solutions to support frequency regulation, load shifting, price arbitrage and peak load reduction by operating at different powers.”
