TERRA NEXT

The first accelerator dedicated to the bioeconomy

Created to support the most innovative startups in the bioeconomy sector, it aims to foster the growth of the most promising companies, create synergies with the scientific excellences of the territory and leading corporations, and promote the culture of open innovation.

What is Terra Next

Terra Next is the accelerator of the National Accelerator Network of CDP Venture Capital, dedicated to Bioeconomy. Co-designed and promoted together with Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, it was created to support the growth of innovative startups and SMEs through an empowerment path and equity investments.

The program promotes connections between innovative companies, leading corporations and the scientific community, activating technical and business mentorship and creating concrete collaboration opportunities with industrial and ecosystem partners.

Terra Next operates with an applied-innovation approach, also including impact measurement through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, supporting more sustainable and competitive market solutions.

Key distinctive elements of the program

The program is based on three fundamental pillars:

  • Sector specialization: a targeted focus on nutraceuticals, circular biomaterials, and regenerative agriculture to provide highly vertical support.
  • Qualified network: the involvement of corporate partners (such as Pastificio Garofalo, Nestlé, Novamont), scientific institutions and investors, ensuring strategic connections and access to industry‑specific resources.
  • Industrial approach: technical and business mentorship, technological validation, prototyping, industrial simulations, and impact measurement through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

Why bioeconomy

Bioeconomy is a strategic lever to address global challenges of sustainability and competitiveness. With a European market value exceeding €2.35 trillion and over 16 million workers, this sector is at the heart of the European Green Deal and the transition towards circular and resilient production models. Investing in bioeconomy means reducing dependence on fossil fuels, protecting biodiversity and promoting innovative supply chains based on the efficient use of renewable biological resources.

Terra Next was created precisely to accelerate this transformation: it supports startups and SMEs developing bio-based solutions in areas such as nutraceuticals, circular biomaterials and regenerative agriculture, encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies and the creation of sustainable value chains. Bioeconomy is not only an economic opportunity, but a long-term vision that integrates innovation, sustainability and industrial impact, contributing to climate neutrality by 2050.

How the selection process works

The Terra Next selection process is structured to identify startups and SMEs with high-potential solutions in the field of bioeconomy. The procedure consists of several stages:

  • Opening of the Call for Startups
Applications are collected through the official platform of the accelerator and evaluated based on innovation criteria, technological validation and alignment with the innovation needs of corporate partners (the fourth Scale Up Program call was launched in November 2025).
  • Evaluation by the committee
A committee composed of promoters, advisory board members and corporate partners reviews the applications and selects up to 10 startups for each annual edition, based on solution quality, team, scalability and industrial potential.
  • Final selection and initial investment
Selected startups access the program with an initial pre-seed investment and enter a 3-month acceleration program based in Naples at the San Giovanni a Teduccio Campus of the University of Naples Federico II.
  • Alignment with corporate partners
The committee identifies the companies most aligned with innovation needs of corporate partners, fostering the opportunity to develop Proofs of Concept (PoC) and industrial collaborations.
