The UK Tech Mission - Italy Roadshow arrives in Turin at the Innovation Center

On November 23rd, the British Consulate General of Milan & the UK Department of International Trade (DIT) organized in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, at its premises on the 31st floor of Intesa Sanpaolo Skyscraper, the UK Tech Mission - Italy Roadshow, in Turin.

 

The event started with a brief presentation of Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, held by Vincenzo Antonetti, Head of Innovation Network Development, presenting insights & opportunities offered by the London & UK Innovation Ecosystem, emphasizing our role as an ecosystem aggregator.

His Highness Mr. Mike Nithavrianakis, British Consul-General and Director of the Department for International Trade in Italy, during his special intervention emphasized the important role of the bilateral cooperation for economic development of both countries with a strong focus on innovative technologies.

CEIPIEMONTE (CENTRO ESTERO PER L’INTERNAZIONALIZZAZIONE) as a main partner, during the presentation of its General Manager, Stefano Nigro, focused on the importance of Piemonte Region in the Italian economy, ‘through its wide range of companies focused mainly on Aerospace & Automotive, making Piemonte the Future-Oriented Region in Italy. 

The main part of the event was the workshop on “UK Technology Landscape: Opportunities for Italian Companies” by Chris Moore, the technology specialist of DIT, which gave a full picture of the advantages UK in different parts of its territory offers for the start-ups & Innovative SMEs, as a starting point in their potential growth also toward other markets worldwide. UK is a great place to do business, ranked the 8th easiest country to do business globally. As businesses are moving online, UK offers new opportunities in UX/UI, Edtech, Fintech Communications, AI, data science, Digital Health and has nowadays a strong demand for Cyber security, Identity management & Cloud infrastructure experts & technologies. IoT, 5G & sensors are supported by wide national & international networks with deep know how coming from international talents & UK well-known universities. Around £40m investments go to the 5G Testbeds, in partnership with SMEs to evaluate 5G application in rural areas, agriculture, manufacturing, connected vehicles, social care, smart tourism, rail, roads, cyber security, manufacturing & logistics, with more than 20 cities with Initiatives in SMART CITY implementations. Accelerator, Incubators & Tech-Nation run growth programmes to drive innovation in every field, helped by a multitude of the world most important events in Digitalization, Digital manufacturing & Robotics, Retail, Trade, e-commerce, fashion, design, ect.

UK provides a wide range of access to funding with the support of DIT: Seed Funds, Business Angels, VCs, Corporate VCs, Crowd Funding, Debt Funding, Government grants & loans. London ranks 1st Financial HUB in Western Europe, 2°in the world after NYC by Global Financial Centers Index in 2022, it is ranked the 1st in Europe for Concentration of VC, CVC, P.E., Angel Investor, crowdfunding. With an ecosystem Value of $142 bn more than ten times the global average, London ranks 3rd for VC Investments Globally & 3rd for Investments in Impact Technologies, 2nd globally for Fintech & 4th Globally for EdTech. UK also provides significant Tax Incentives as the R&D Tax Credits, Patentbox for IP created in the UK and Creative Industries Tax Relief.
