“Maritime Ventures” presented in Genoa

Innovation Center participated in the presentation of the initiative created by CDP Venture Capital, which brings together investors, companies and institutions to relaunch the nautical and logistics-port sector

The presentation of "Maritime Ventures", the venture builder project dedicated to the nautical and logistics-port supply chains, born on the initiative of CDP Venture Capital, was held on 13 September in the spaces of the Genoa Blue District. In agreement with the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, CDP Venture Capital has promoted the establishment of a special purpose company entirely dedicated to the construction and launch of new entrepreneurial initiatives that will develop products and services for the digitalisation and innovation of SMEs who operate in the nautical and logistics-port supply chains.

Maritime Ventures aims to create 10 new companies in the next 3 years, to respond to the growing digitalisation needs of SMEs that develop components and services in the shipbuilding, pleasure boating, cruise and port logistics sectors . These new companies will be the subject of subsequent equity investments by the Boost Innovation Fund of CDP Venture Capital for an amount of approximately 30 million euros, which will be able to generate an additionality effect on the market which will bring the total investments to approximately 70 million euros .

Maritime Ventures will operate in two permanent offices in Genoa and Trieste.

 

The project involves leading investors: the German venture builder Bridgemaker and Cariplo Factory who will operate in a joint venture managing the operations of Maritime Ventures, Fincantieri and PSA Italy, present in Italy with three container terminals which manage 25% of the import-export of the our country. The Intesa Sanpaolo Group invested in the project through Fondo Sei, Sviluppo Ecosistemi Innovativi of Neva Sgr, the Group's venture capital company controlled by Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center.  

Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center will also support the interaction between project management and the ecosystem of SMEs belonging to the supply chains involved.

Also participating in the project are Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, which supports the development of the Genoese and Ligurian territory, Friulia, the financial institution of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region which supports the development of the regional territory and Confindustria Genova.

The presentation day opened with a video message from Adolfo Urso, Minister for Business and Made in Italy, followed by Marco Bucci, Mayor of Genoa and Alessio Piana, Regional Councilor for Economic Development of the Liguria Region. The works continued with the intervention of Agostino Scornajenchi, CEO and General Director of CDP Venture Capital and Lorenzo Franchini, Head of the Boost Innovation Fund, who underlined the importance of the link between business, innovation and investments and the relevance of the nautical sector and ports as national strategic supply chains.

The CEO of Fincantieri Pierroberto Folgiero and the CEO of PSA Italy Roberto Ferrari explored the vision of the large leading industrial groups by illustrating the digital transition needs for the nautical and logistics-port supply chains.

 

The role of Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center

Following this, the round table "Innovating supply chains to guarantee the country's industrial competitiveness" saw the participation of Alberto Anfossi, General Secretary of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, Alessandro Balboni, Head of Innovation Business Development of Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, Andrea Fioravanti, Senior Investment Officer of Friulia and Vittoria Gozzi, Vice President of Confindustria Genoa.

The work was concluded by Enrico Noseda, CEO of Maritime Ventures and Chief Innovation Officer of Cariplo Factory.

In the panel attended by Innovation Center, Alessandro Balboni spoke about the motivation that pushed a large financial group like Intesa Sanpaolo to participate in the project, the positive impact that this initiative can have on the territory in terms of new jobs and new advantage competitive for the country and the contribution that the program can make in terms of the development of new sustainable processes, products and business models. Innovation Center participates in this initiative dedicated to the maritime economy with the aim of supporting the interaction between the stakeholders of the production chains involved. Encouraging the birth and growth of startups and the development of innovation ecosystems is an essential part of the Innovation Center's mission and for this reason it offers its know-how and its investment, through Neva SGR, in a highly strategic sector, that of sea ​​economy.
