Torino Smart Destination: between international rankings, examples of success and ecosystem ideas
On November 21st from 2.30pm Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center will host the event created in collaboration with CTE Next and Compagnia di San Paolo and broadcast in live streaming. An opportunity for discussion between the actors of the Turin innovative ecosystem, which is constantly growing at a European level.
Turin is known worldwide for automotive, however the local entrepreneurial innovation ecosystem is carving out an increasingly important role at a European level and has entered the ranking of the Report Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2023 (GSER) published by Startup Genome & the Global Entrepreneurship Network: the most complete and widespread on a global scale, counting on data from 290 innovative ecosystems which include over 3.5 million companies.
Indeed, thanks to the strong impulse given by Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, Compagnia di San Paolo and other players in the ecosystem like Techstars (which launched its first acceleration program in Italy in the city), Turin is projected towards becoming an international hub for innovators and is now firmly in the European rankings.

Data and growth of Turin's entrepreneurial innovation ecosystem
Turin's innovative ecosystem is among the richest in technological and attractive talents at European level, and comes back in the top 35 of the GSER 2023 beyond grow constantly as regards the Ecosystem Value (+37%), reaching 2.1 billion dollars in 2022: 54% more than in the previous two years considering the overall value of the exits and the evaluations of the local innovative startups.
Artificial intelligence, Analytics, Smart Cities, Space Technologies are the most representative sectors both with regards totalent density, both relatively toresources and starting new activities.
The role of investors has also a crucial value for the ecosystem, with Neva SRG (Venture Capital company 100% controlled by Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center) which in 2022 allocated a 250 million euro investment fund, launching also the "Innovation Ecosystem Development Fund" (SEI Fund) to support the growth of the Italian innovation ecosystem through targeted investments in vehicles aimed at implementing research, selection, acceleration and professionalization programs of the most promising Italian startups.
Furthermore, Turin is among the 100 cities selected by the European Commission to take part in European Smart Cities and Climate Neutrality mission, committing to achieve it by 2030 thanks to technological innovation and targeted initiatives.
Between these Techstars Transformative World Torino 2024, fifth edition of the acceleration program of which Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, Compagnia di San Paolo and Fondazione CRT will still be main partners.

To analyze and deepen data and the future of an innovative ecosystem in constant growth, on 21 November 2023 at 14.30 at the Intesa Sanpaolo skyscraper will be held the event CTE Next “Turin Smart Destination: international rankings, examples of success and ideas of ecosystem”. The meeting - broadcast in live streaming upon registration at this link - will focus on the state of the Turin innovation ecosystem and its attractiveness as a "laboratory" for innovators.
Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and Compagnia di San Paolo will open the event by presenting some data from the Startup Genome 2023 Report, and then leave room to round table "Towards a Global Strategic Partnership for the Turin ecosystem: what are the ingredients to start from?": an opportunity for discussion and reflection on the prospects of the local innovative ecosystem to whom will participate Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, House of emerging technologies in Turin (CTE NEXT). institutions, local and international accelerators (such as Techstars and ESA BIC TURIN).
Following, some successful startups who have participated in the Techstars program or who have links with the Turin innovation players will take the floor and take an overview of the current opportunities of the local ecosystem and the margins for improvement. The event will end with greetings from Chiara Foglietta, Councilor for Innovation and Ecological and Digital Transition of the City of Turin.
