Stories of Innovation

Matteo Bertocchi, CEO & Co-Founder of Novac, tells us how the idea of creating an innovative startup in the energy storage sector was born: "The idea of founding Novac started in 2019 when I and the other co-founders met at the TACC, Training for Automotive Companies Creation, course at the University of Modena [...]. After getting in touch with Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, we participated in the Up2Stars acceleration path and in In Action ESG Climate, the initiative launched by the Life Companies of the Intesa Sanpaolo Assicurazioni Group. In this competition last year we achieved second place, which guaranteed us the economic and financial resources to launch a sustainability project in 2025".

Novac is an Italian startup founded in 2020 that works in the automotive sector, especially with supercapacitors for electric vehicles and satellites. It helps manufacturers of electric vehicles to be more efficient and perform better than their competitors by using solid, mouldable and safe supercapacitors.

This technology can also have applications in space. Precisely for this reason, Novac recently obtained an investment from Galaxia, the National Aerospace Technology Transfer Hub launched in 2023 and supported by Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, in which Neva SGR, a venture capital company of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo have chosen to invest €2.5 million. Galaxia focuses on investments in various areas of aerospace, including enabling technologies and technology transfer between space and Earth.
